At Hearing Associates, we take tinnitus very seriously and recognize that it is a condition that can greatly impact a large variety of people. Therefore, we have worked very hard to provide as many different treatments for this condition as possible.
Even though there is currently no cure, we are confident in our treatments and their ability to improve our patients’ lives vastly.
What Is Tinnitus?
Tinnitus is a condition where someone experiences hearing a sound when no external sound is being made. The sound that is heard can vary between people, but some of the most common sounds are ringing, whistling, whooshing, humming, or buzzing.
The exact number of people who experience this is uncertain, but we know that this is a common condition. However, while it is prevalent, scientists are still unsure of what causes it, especially because it can occur in virtually any person at any age.
We know that it results from some physiological change, but that change may not be only within the ears.
Tinnitus can be constant or intermittent, and some people report only really noticing the noise when they have a cold or flu or when they are stressed. However, others experience the noise all of the time, and rightfully so, it can become annoying or frustrating in either situation.
How We Can Help
At Hearing Associates, we understand that no two people’s experience with tinnitus is the same.
Even though there is currently no cure for tinnitus, we offer many treatments to make it more manageable. However, we know that while one treatment may work amazingly for some of our patients, it may do absolutely nothing to help others.
This is why we are dedicated to working with each of our patients individually to find what treatment or treatments are right for them. We are here to help and guide our patients on their hearing journey, no matter how short or long it may be.
Multiple Treatments
As stated earlier, we offer many different kinds of treatments for tinnitus. One of those treatments is actually hearing aids! Many people don’t necessarily correlate tinnitus with hearing loss (in fact, it may seem like the exact opposite).
Still, hearing aids can actually help reduce or mask the sound and help with any hearing loss.
Similar to hearing aids, we also offer sound maskers that are pretty self-explanatory. They work to mask the sensation of hearing the sounds associated with tinnitus.
Another option is medication therapy to reduce stress and anxiety that may be contributing to tinnitus symptoms.
Sound therapy is also available, such as Levo Systems, which matches the sound quality and volume of tinnitus sounds to create a zeroing out effect, and Desyncra Sound Therapy, which works to disrupt the tinnitus neural signal to the brain.
And these are just a few of the options we offer!
Along with any treatment, we also work with our patients on different coping mechanisms and skills to deal with the psychological difficulties tinnitus may create.
Again, we pride ourselves on creating personalized treatment plans for each patient and would love nothing more than to help.
